Daughters of Charity Services provides a better quality of life through accessible and affordable primary medical care, dental care, health education, social services, counseling and child development services. Specifically, Daughters of Charity Services provides primary outpatient services with staff and volunteers skilled in family practice, dermatology, orthopedics, geriatrics, and pediatrics. The organization also provides comprehensive dental services including preventive dentistry, restorations, extractions, and root canals. Our programs also offer other assistance including food, clothing, and emergency monetary assistance. Our wellness program provides early diagnosis, prevention, and health education designed to limit the adverse effects of diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity, and other chronic debilitating diseases. Our child development services provide a safe, bilingual and educationally-sound child development program.
Geographic Area Served
Our program sites are all located in a Medically Underserved Area as recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The DePaul Family Center and the De Paul-Wesley Children's Center, which house the child development programs, serve an area of about 68 square miles in southwest San Antonio, with a population of approximately 296,000 people. The El Carmen Center and La Misión serve an area of about 168 square miles in rural Bexar County, with a population of approximately 69,000 people. The population served is over 80 percent Hispanic. Thirty-three percent of families served have annual household incomes under $15,000. Forty-five percent have educational levels below high school graduation.
November 2008: Daughters of Charity Services of San Antonio has received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America's largest independent evaluator of charities.
